Businesses in the area have been locked down, according to authorities.
Police in Jemison, Alabama, are responding to an "ongoing hostage situation" involving an armed suspect at a doctor's office, authorities said Monday.
The gunman was first reported at the office of Dr. Jayprakash D. Patel, the city said on its Facebook page.
The city later said that the suspect had moved from the office into a nearby residence.
