Broadway Legend Elaine Stritch Is Dead At 89

The celebrated actress and singer, who in recent years became known for her recurring role on the NBC comedy “30 Rock,” died at her Michigan home on Thursday.

Her death was confirmed by her friend Julie Keyes, the New York Times reported. Stritch moved to Michigan last year after years of living at the Carlyle Hotel in Manhattan.


The charismatic actress who began her career in 1940 appeared in movies such as Woody Allen's September and Small Time Crooks. She also played Alec Baldwin's bossy mother on the NBC comedy 30 Rock.


One of her most memorable appearances was in the in the Sondheim musical Company where she famously sang "The Ladies Who Lunch."



The song became her signature tune.
