Malaysian Airliner Crashes In Eastern Ukraine, Official Says

A Malaysian passenger airliner with 280 passengers and 15 crew members on board crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border, an adviser to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko said.


Gerashchenko wrote on Facebook that the plane was shot down.


According to FlightAware, the plane is a Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. The airline confirmed it lost contact with the plane.


Earlier on Thursday, The New York Times reported the Ukrainian government said that a Russian military plane had shot down a Ukrainian fighter jet in Ukrainian airspace the previous evening.
