Nine Men Arrested In London On Suspicion Of "Encouraging Terrorism"

The Metropolitan Police have detained nine men suspected of being members of a banned organisation.


The Metropolitan Police have said they have arrested nine men as part of an ongoing investigation into Islamist-related terrorism.


The Metropolitan Police have said they have arrested nine men as part of an ongoing investigation into Islamist-related terrorism.


In a statement, the police said they arrested the men on "suspicion of being a member of a proscribed organisation, supporting a proscribed organisation" and "encouraging terrorism".


They are conducting searches of residential, business or community premises, eleven of which were in east London, one in west London, one in north west London and five in south London. Another search has been conducted 160 miles north in Stoke-on-Trent.

The men, aged between 22 and 51, have been taken to police stations in central London.


The police said the arrests and searches were part of an "ongoing investigation into Islamist related terrorism and are not in response to any immediate public safety risk."
