An Israel Defense Forces soldier is in critical condition after he was stabbed in what police said was a terror attack. Within hours, police reported another stabbing in West Bank.
A 20-year-old Israeli soldier was stabbed in Tel Aviv on Monday in what police are describing as a terror attack, CNN reported.
The alleged attacker was a Palestinian man who is being held by police for questioning, according to reports.
The Palestinian was from the Aksar refugee camp in Nablus, according to local Palestinian sources, Haaretz reported. He had entered Israel illegally.
Police said the Palestinian man repeatedly stabbed the soldier in an assault that was apparently politically motivated, Reuters reported.
The stabbing took place on a bridge near a train station in south Tel Aviv.
Eyewitnesses alerted the police to the fourth floor of apartment building where the suspect was hiding, police said. "We ascended the stairs and saw blood drops on the first floor," a police spokeswoman said. "We continued upward and saw the suspect lying on his back. He didn't speak or resist when we did an initial search. He was in a state of collapse."
According to the Israel police's Twitter feed, the incident was deemed as a "terrorist knife attack."
Israeli-Palestinian tensions have risen due to violence involving access to the Temple Mount, Islam's third holiest site and Judaism's holiest site.
An unverified video of Israeli police fatally shooting a 22-year-old Palestinian protester in the back also incited riots across northern Israel on Saturday.
