Members began gathering at the church as word of the crash spread, the newspaper reported.
One man said that his father-in-law and cousin were passengers in the van, and he had to help identify some of the bodies.
"I was there trying to be a man," Phillipe Dorce told the News-Press. "But at the same time, I'm crying too."
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash is under investigation.
