A mother from Detroit was arrested on Tuesday after her two children were found dead inside a freezer at the family home, according to NBC News.
The grim discovery was made at 11 a.m. Tuesday by a bailiff, who was visiting the property to carry out an eviction at a unit in the Martin Luther King Apartments in the 800 block of St. Aubin Street.
Speaking to reporters, police chief James Craig said: "Terrible find this afternoon. It was during that eviction process that they discovered two young children in a freezer... they were inside a bag and appeared to be frozen," according to WDIV.
The bodies are believed to be of an 11-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl. Neither the mother or the children have been identified.
Authorities were unable to say how long the bodies had been there.
Craig added there were two other children living in the home, who are now under the care of social services. Craig also said it is too early in the investigation to talk about a motive.
Neighbor Tori Childs told WDIV that the news came as a complete surprise: "There were no signs of injuries or any kind of trauma at all. I would have never expected this."
The mother, although under custody as a person of interest, has not yet been formally charged, according to local reports.
