A veteran officer was killed Tuesday evening while responding to a call, prompting a massive search for the unidentified gunman.
The San Jose Police Department said on Twitter that the officer was a veteran of the force, but did not provide a name. The department did not immediately respond to a BuzzFeed News requests for information.
The Associated Press reported the officer was killed by a man who was threatening to commit suicide.
The officer first responded to the area of the shooting around 7 p.m., according to the San Jose Mercury News. As of 9:30 p.m. PT, police were still looking for the shooter.
