At least 32 people were reportedly killed when a bus plunged off a ridge in Brazil, several news agencies reported. Several more people may be trapped inside the vehicle.
Rescue workers were trying to reach possible survivors, but Brazilian authorities told Agence France-Presse that efforts were hampered because of darkness and the terrain of the wooded ravine.
About 50 people are believed to have been aboard the bus when it plunged down the cliff near Joinville, a city in Santa Catarina state, the BBC reported.
The driver is believed to have lost control of the bus on the curving road, though the cause of the crash was still under investigation, officials told Agence France-Presse.
About a dozen passengers were reportedly rescued from the wreck and taken to nearby hospitals to be treated.
