According to Pomona police, authorities received multiple 911 calls around 3:30 a.m. Friday from people who heard gunshots. When police arrived to Third and Main streets, they found 23-year-old Salome Rodriguez, Jr. with gunshot wounds to his lower torso.

He was taken to a hospital where he later died, Pomona police said in a statement.

Police said Rodriguez had been in a physical fight with another man before he was shot. It was not immediately known if the two men knew each other before the fight.

On Saturday, authorities identified Solis as a person of interest in the homicide investigation. The 27-year-old was a probationary officer with the Los Angeles Police Department and a resident of Pomona. According to authorities, he has not shown up for work since the shooting.

"We have reason to believe that he knows the police are looking to talk with him," Pomona police said.

Pomona police said Sunday they had found a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta believed to be connected with the murder. The search for Solis continues to be active, police said.
